Want to see a real kiwi (the bird) in its natural setting? How about a tuatara, the native lizard which traces its ancestry back to the dinosaurs?
We head into the bushes by torchlight to see what New Zealand's wildlife gets up to at night, with our Zealandia Wildlife Sanctuary Tour.
The 225 hectare Zealandia reserve is actually within Wellington city boundaries, just a short bus trip from downtown. Our knowledegable gay guide will point out the kaka parrots, partying late into the night. Glowworms will light up banks alongside the track with their little greenish lights. The tuatara lizards are also active at night, when they emerge from their burrows.
The sanctuary is home to over 100 kiwi, New Zealand's flightless and endangered bird. You'll hear the screech of their call, and may even spot one digging for worms with its long beak if you're lucky.
Details of other tours, dates, prices and booking details will appear on this page in coming months.
